Grain whiskies are generally thought to be “lighter” than single malts, but occasionally the alchemy of fine spirit, good wood – here from ex-bourbon casks – and Old Father Time creates something truly exceptional; with that in mind, we present our Dumbarton Single Grain Scotch Whisky.

1977 was a momentous year in the history of The Last Drop, as it was the year our founders James Espey and Tom Jago first met. It was also the year our third Single Grain release was distilled, followed by a maturation of over 42 years in ex-Bourbon casks until we bottled it in 2019.

Mark Gillespie of WhiskyCast’s tasting notes This single grain Scotch Whisky was bottled after 42 years in ex-Bourbon casks, and comes from the long-closed Dumbarton distillery along the River Clyde west of Glasgow. The nose is fruity with peaches, apricots, and a hint of lemon zest along with milk chocolate and caramel candy. The taste is fruity with a good underlying spiciness, as peaches, apricots, and hints of citrus overlay allspice and white pepper spices while milk chocolate adds complexity in the background. The finish is long and fruity with hints of spice and oak. Excellent!
