From the heart of the Bluegrass State to the Highlands of Scotland, and over the ocean to the land of the Rising Sun, the Last Drop Distillers 2025 Collection showcases three remarkable spirits, each a unique expression, with more than a touch of magic…

Ever since its 2008 launch, The Last Drop Distillers has remained firmly committed to a single vision: to curate, create and bottle the world’s most rare and coveted spirits which span categories and style.

To this end, the label, which was brought to life by Tom Jago and James Espey, a celebrated drinks-industry duo who drew upon over 100 years of experience between them, has not only been driven by the idea of exploration – a notion which has paved the road of discovery across the globe – but also that of quality, whereby limited bottlings comprising only the most remarkable liquids are.

This Spring, The Last Drop is proud to present a trilogy of unique bottlings, from Kentucky, Scotland and Japan: releases 37, 38 and 39.

Release 37 – 27 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

As one of the oldest bourbons yet to be bottled from the Buffalo Trace Distillery this unique release is a marriage of three of the distillery’s oldest barrels – distilled in 1995, 1996 and 1997. These barrels were hand selected and married together by Master Blender Drew Mayville and Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley. The resulting whiskey pushes the boundaries of bourbon beyond all expectations, showcasing the depth and character from decades of careful aging at the distillery’s state-of-the-art maturation facility, Warehouse P.

The colour is bright bronze-gold, and aromas of seasoned oak immediately greet the senses, followed by essence of cherry and medjool date. Baking spices and dark fruit are intertwined with a peppery rye influence. A long finish befitting the great age of this whiskey brings notes of dried fruits and caramel, lengthened by the oak spice.

Release 38 – 55 Year Old Tomintoul Single Malt Scotch Whisky

The sister cask to Release No. 36 [insert link please], which debuted in the 2024 Collection as The Last Drop’s oldest single malt release to date, this rich, ultra-aged single malt was created from three casks of single malt Scotch Whisky all distilled in April 1969. To preserve the character and quality of the whisky, these casks were married together and placed into an ex-Matusalem Sherry butt to finish for an additional two years before bottling, bringing a multi-faceted flavour to the whisky.

The colour of this ultra-aged whisky is deep amber tinged with dusky pink. Opulent red fruits and and ripe peaches on the nose, are enhanced by toasted nuts and creamy toffee. The taste is full of stone fruits, cinnamon and nutmeg. As the spirit opens in the glass, an exotic tang of pineapple cake and sweet caramel leads to a complex, sweet and spicy finish.

Release 39 – 22 Year Old Blended Japanese Malt Whisky

Twenty five years after its closure, the Hanyu Distillery is still renowned for its elusive but delicious whiskies. This rare bottling encapsulates the artistry of distilling in Japan, combined with the mastery of blending. Featuring malt whiskies distilled and laid down for maturation in the year 2000 – the year that the original Hanyu Distillery ceased operations – this release is a marriage of 100% Japanese whiskies originally finished in two separate casks, each made from the coveted Mizunara oak. Known for its porous, temperamental nature, Mizunara imparts a distinctive flavor profile with floral, herbal and nutty characteristics. These two casks were then blended together to form this, The Last Drop’s third Japanese Whisky.

The colour is a rich deep gold and the nose is redolent of walking into an exclusive spa, with notes of sandalwood, warming nutmeg and all-spice. Surprising flavours of tropical fruits and coconut combine with red berries for a smooth mouthfeel, while spiced incense and wood briefly return briefly to create a perfectly-balanced liquid. A sweet spice warming finish fades beautifully into the memory.
